TTC OE Clarity Telefonie-Systeme Bad Homburg – Borussia Dortmund 2:3

It was a table tennis evening that had everything the spectators at the Wingertsporthalle could have hoped for: high-quality rallies, emotional moments, discussions, five fiercely contested matches and, in the end, an incredibly close result.

After more than four hours of play, TTC OE Clarity Telefonie-Systeme Bad Homburg suffered a narrow 2:3 defeat against Borussia Dortmund on Thursday evening.

Despite the loss, the team delivered a fighting performance and took the match all the way to the decisive final doubles. Csaba András was particularly outstanding, winning both of his singles matches and keeping the TTC in contention with an exceptional performance.

Dream start through Csaba András

Csaba András opened the evening against Dortmund’s Cedric Nuytinck. After losing the first set, the Bad Homburg player found his rhythm and impressively turned the match around.

As the match progressed, András increasingly took control and repeatedly put Nuytinck under pressure with his attacking game. The following three sets all went to the Bad Homburg player, securing the first point of the evening for the TTC.

With a 1:0 lead, the TTC had enjoyed the perfect start to the evening.

Juan Perez battles against Anders Lind

In the second singles match, Juan Perez faced Dortmund’s top player Anders Lind. Although the final score was 0:3, it does not fully reflect how closely contested the beginning of the match was.

Right from the first set, an intense battle developed. Perez fought for every ball and had several opportunities to take the set against the Dane. After a long and high-quality exchange, however, he narrowly lost the opening set 14:16.

Lind then demonstrated his quality in the following two sets and eventually brought the visitors level.

The match was therefore tied at 1:1 going into the break.

Dortmund takes the lead

After the break, Ivor Ban faced Wim Verdonschot. The Dortmund player is currently in excellent form and confirmed that once again in Bad Homburg.

Ivor tried to put his opponent under pressure with his versatile style of play, but Verdonschot quickly found his rhythm and allowed very few opportunities. In the end, Ban had to accept a 0:3 defeat.

Borussia Dortmund had taken the lead for the first time that evening.

Csaba András delivers an outstanding performance against Anders Lind

It was once again up to Csaba András to keep the TTC in the match. Against Anders Lind, one of the most emotional and highest-quality encounters of the entire evening unfolded.

The opening set already provided plenty of talking points. At 12:11 for Lind, a ball from the Dortmund player was ruled an edge ball by the umpires. Following lengthy discussions and an attempt to review the situation using video footage, the decision stood, and Lind secured the set 13:11.

But András refused to let the incident affect him.

The Bad Homburg player responded in impressive fashion, taking the next two sets with a strong performance. His consistency in long rallies and fearless attacking play repeatedly caused problems for Lind.

After Lind levelled the match at 2:2, the fifth set had to decide the winner. Once again, András showed his class. With tremendous fighting spirit and the support of the home crowd, he claimed the deciding set 11:9 and brought the TTC back into the match.

With his second singles victory of the evening, Csaba András made it 2:2 and sent the match into the decisive final doubles.

Everything comes down to the doubles

After more than four hours of play, the final doubles match would decide between victory and defeat.

Benno Oehme and Ivor Ban took to the table for Bad Homburg against Adam Szudi and Cedric Nuytinck. Once again, the match developed into an intense five-set thriller.

After losing the opening set, Oehme and Ban fought their way back impressively to level the match at 1:1. Dortmund regained the lead, but the Bad Homburg duo refused to give up and forced a deciding set with a strong performance in the fourth.

In the end, however, Borussia Dortmund had the better finish.

After more than four hours, the visitors from Dortmund celebrated a narrow 3:2 victory.

Great fighting spirit despite a bitter ending

Even though the TTC came away from the match without any points, the team can take plenty of positives from the performance. The fighting spirit was there, the players never gave up, and they pushed a strong opponent all the way to the final match.

Csaba András, in particular, once again confirmed his outstanding form. With two singles victories against Cedric Nuytinck and top-ranked player Anders Lind, the Hungarian was once again the decisive factor for Bad Homburg.

After his victory against Lind, András had mixed emotions despite his personal performance:

“I have mixed feelings right now. I won both of my matches, but we lost as a team. For me, the team always comes first. My personal performance was outstanding today. The hard training is paying off, and I hope I can maintain this form for a long time.”

In the end, it was a bitter defeat after an exceptionally long and intense evening of table tennis. However, the performance showed that TTC OE Bad Homburg can compete with strong opponents and fight until the very last ball.

Now, the focus quickly turns to the next challenge.
