Csaba András with Two Wins – Oehme and Ban Secure the Away Victory in the Final Doubles Match
What a nail-biter on Matchday 5 of the Table Tennis Bundesliga! After more than four hours, TTC OE Clarity-Tel.Syst. Bad Homburg prevailed 3:2 at TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt, celebrating an important away victory. The match wasn’t decided until the final doubles match, where Benno Oehme and Ivor Ban kept their cool and sealed the win.
After a difficult start—with Juan Perez losing 0–3 to Benedikt Duda—Csaba András secured the first point. Against Cedric Meissner, Csaba fought back from an early deficit to win the match 3–2. After the break, our new Australian signing, Finn Luu, made his Bundesliga debut. Finn put in a strong performance against Romain Ruiz but ultimately fell short, losing 1–3.
This puts Bergneustadt back in the lead, but Csaba András brings us back into the game. He puts on a commanding performance against Benedikt Duda and wins 3-0. For Csaba, this is already his second singles victory of the day. With a record of 7-2, he remains at the top of the TTBL singles standings. “Csaba is playing really well right now and, of course, that gives him a lot of confidence. He’s beaten Dima and Anders Lind—absolute world-class players. Benedikt just got back from Macau yesterday, so that must have left him a little tired,” said teammate Oehme after the match.
In the subsequent final doubles match, Benno Oehme and Ivor Ban take to the table for TTC OE. After a strong start and a 2-0 set lead, Meissner and Rassenfosse fought their way back and forced a fifth set. Things got really tight there, but Benno and Ivor kept their cool and prevailed 12-10. This sealed the 3-2 away victory for TTC OE.
Benno Oehme commented on the match: “We got off to a good start; Ivor played very strongly in the first two sets. Adrien Rassenfosse wasn’t really in the game yet—he hadn’t played any singles matches. In the third and fourth sets, we got off to a bad start in each, and Rassenfosse/Meissner played more aggressively against us and placed the balls well. In the fifth set, we were just fighting for every ball.”
With this victory, TTC OE climbs to seventh place in the TTBL standings for now and passes the red lantern on to Bergneustadt. A big thank you goes out to our fans who traveled with us for their loud support. We’ll be back in action on November 2 with our next home game against SV Werder Bremen.
